
Dr. Berilgen is a Board-certified radiation oncologist. He graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in physics from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. He earned his Doctor of Medicine from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, where he completed clinical rotations at Houston Methodist Hospital and the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. In 2003, he was honored with the American Society of Hematology Medical Student Award.
Dr. Berilgen completed residency in radiation oncology at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) School of Medicine in Galveston, where he also completed the Pinnacle Hands-On Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) training course. He served as chief resident in radiation oncology from 2008 to 2009. During residency, he pursued additional elective training at MD Anderson Cancer Center, focusing on malignancies of the breast, gastrointestinal tract, and lung. He completed pediatric radiation oncology training at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
Throughout his training, Dr. Berilgen gained extensive experience in intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), 3D conformal radiation therapy, CT/MRI/PET-based simulation, high-dose-rate (HDR) brachytherapy (MammoSite, prostate and gynecologic), and respiratory gating and 4D planning.
Board certified in radiation oncology by the American Board of Radiology, Dr. Berilgen specializes in image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT), intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT), stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT), stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) and volumetric arc therapy (VMAT).
He previously served as medical director and comprehensive cancer center director at Sadler Clinic. He then served as director of radiation oncology at Millennium Physicians. He is now head of radiation oncology and diagnostic imaging at Woodlands Cancer Institute.
Dr. Berilgen is a member of the American Brachytherapy Society (ABS), the Association Radium Society (ARS), the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), the American Society of Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ASTRO) and the Texas Medical Association (TMA).
Outside of work, he enjoys playing tennis, chess, and poker.
